Scatter terrain is the difference between a flat grid and a scene your players actually remember. This wooden crate from Mia Kay M3DM is a well-proportioned, characterful piece with cross-brace detailing on the front panel and horizontal slat texture across the sides — the kind of workaday furniture that populates markets, warehouses, cellars, and smugglers' dens alike. It reads clearly at tabletop scale without overwhelming the figures around it, making it equally useful as incidental set dressing or a genuine tactical obstacle.
Whether you're filling out a dockside ambush, stacking supplies in a merchant's stockroom, or building a dungeon that looks like someone actually uses it, this crate earns its place on the table. It also paints up neatly — the surface detail holds washes and drybrushing well, so even a quick paint job gives convincing aged wood. For display diorama builders, the bundle image showing three crates grouped together gives a sense of just how much atmosphere a small cluster can add.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Want scatter terrain that adds genuine tactical cover to encounters
- Are building immersive battle maps for dungeon, urban, or wilderness scenes
- Enjoy painting terrain pieces as part of their hobby
- Are assembling display dioramas or themed tabletop setups
- Need versatile props that work across multiple campaign settings
Encounter Hook:
The harbormaster swears the shipment of alchemical supplies arrived three days ago — but when the party checks the warehouse, half the crates have been moved, one has been forced open from the inside, and something with claws has left marks on the floor between the stacks.
