The Cornuta Toad is one of those creatures that stops a table dead the moment you place it down. At a glance it reads as an ordinary — if exceptionally warty — toad: broad, low-slung, and possessed of a faintly contemptuous expression. Then you notice the twin insect wings folded across its back, their venation crisp and precise, and the single curved horn jutting from its brow like a declaration of intent. This is not an animal that evolved naturally. Something in a bog, a feywild border, or a particularly irresponsible druid's laboratory made a decision, and this creature is that decision made flesh.
La Louve 3D has sculpted the Cornuta Toad with an exceptional level of textural detail — the skin is covered in irregular warty nodules, the webbed toes splay naturally against the ground, and the wings carry a delicate cellular structure that rewards careful drybrushing. The horn is sharp and unambiguous. The expression — hooded eyes, slightly upturned mouth — reads as either deeply bored or faintly threatening. Probably both. This is a sculpt that paints up brilliantly as a swamp wanderer, a fey familiar, a druidic companion, or simply a very strange thing the party found near the water.
Great for adventurers who:
- Run swamp, wetland, or Feywild encounters and want something unexpected on the table
- Need a distinctive beast companion or druid wildshape token
- Want a characterful painting project with rich surface texture
- Are building out a collection of fey-touched or magically-altered fauna
- Appreciate a sculpt that gets an immediate reaction from players the moment it hits the mat
Encounter Hook: The party has been tracking a missing village child into the fens when they find her — unharmed, cross-legged in the reeds, feeding flies to an enormous warty toad with wings. The creature regards the adventurers with slow, heavy-lidded eyes. The child says it followed her from the glowing pool three days ago. The toad has not moved. The toad is still watching.
