This is pose 01 of Novaminis' Cockatrice range — captured mid-shriek with wings fully spread, taloned feet braced for a lunge, and that hooked beak open wide. The sculpt captures every unsettling detail that makes this creature such a memorable encounter: the heavy dorsal spines, the leathery bat-like wings edged with claw-tips, the scaly hide meeting feathered frills around the neck, and a long barbed tail sweeping behind it. Viewed from any angle — front, rear, flank — there's genuine menace in the posture.
In D&D 5e, the cockatrice is one of those monstrosities that punches well above its Challenge Rating. A creature that can turn a reckless adventurer to stone on a failed save demands a miniature that communicates the threat immediately — and this sculpt does exactly that. Whether you're running it as a lone territorial predator or the guard-beast of a Medusa's lair, it'll have your players reconsidering their positioning.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Need a characterful monstrosity for D&D 5e or other TTRPG encounters
- Are building a petrification-themed dungeon or wilderness encounter
- Want a dynamic creature mini that's equally at home on the gaming table or a display shelf
- Enjoy painting detailed creature sculpts with layered textures — scales, hide, and leathery wings all in one model
Encounter Hook:
The shepherd's flock has been missing for three days. When the party arrives at the upland pasture, they find a row of stone sheep — and perched atop one of them, preening, is a cockatrice that has clearly claimed the whole hillside as its territory. It notices the adventurers at the same moment they notice it.
Scaled to 32mm. Available with or without a plain black base — base comes unattached and can be fixed with a drop of glue. Supports are removed before dispatch; as with all high-detail resin work, occasional minor marks are possible and easily tidied up with light sanding. Fully cured and ready to prime.
