The Coatl is a creature steeped in ancient mythology — a celestial serpent of divine origin, worshipped as a god or feared as an omen depending on who you ask. This sculpt captures it not as a living creature mid-strike, but as something far more unnerving: a stone idol, carved and venerated, its scaled body rearing from a cracked ceremonial plinth adorned with ancient glyphs. Broad leaf-like feathers crown its snarling head, and its coiled form suggests restrained power rather than dormant stillness. Whether it's a trap, a guardian construct, or a genuine divine presence, this piece tells a story before a single die is rolled.
The detail here rewards the painter — the scaled underbelly, the chipped stonework of the base, the tension in the serpent's arched neck — but it reads just as well unpainted on the table, carrying the weight of ancient ritual through sheer sculpt quality alone. Equally at home as a centrepiece on a display shelf as it is marking the altar of a lost civilisation in your campaign.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run jungle temple, mesoamerican-inspired, or lost civilisation encounters
- Need a distinctive altar piece, ward stone, or divine idol as terrain or set dressing
- Want a Coatl miniature that works as both a boss encounter and a display piece
- Are building a Yuan-ti lair, an ancient ruin, or a divine trial arc
- Love painting intricate stonework textures and feathered detail
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tasked with recovering a stolen relic from the Temple of the Scaled Heaven — but as they reach the inner sanctum, they realise the idol in the centre of the room is not carved from stone. It has simply been very, very still. Until now.
Details
Printed at 32mm scale. Supplied unpainted and ready for priming. The model and decorative base are separate pieces and attach with superglue — the sculpt is designed to interact with its plinth, so we recommend using both together for the full effect. As with all hand-finished resin work, minor surface marks are possible; these are easily tidied up before painting.
