This squat, menacing goblin is caught mid-crouch, knees bent and claws splayed, radiating the coiled tension of a creature about to explode into violence. His raised arm winds back a heavy spiked mace — the kind of crude, brutal weapon that says everything about how its owner fights. Wrapped armour of layered rope, chain and bound cloth covers a stocky frame, and spiked bands decorate his greaves and belt, giving him the look of a goblin who has survived long enough to accessorise.
The face tells the real story: heavy brow, deep-set eyes, and the kind of expression that sits somewhere between simmering fury and cold calculation. This is not a mindless grunt — this is a goblin who has been in scrapes before and learned from every one of them. The sculpt from Epic Miniatures captures that particular brand of goblinoid menace that makes even seasoned parties hesitate before kicking in the door.
The multipart sculpt gives painters excellent access to all that surface detail — the knotted rope wrapping, the chain links, the individually rendered clawed fingers — and the raised mace arm creates a natural focal point for a rust-and-gore weapon effect. As a gaming piece he reads instantly from across the table; as a display mini he rewards every hour you spend on him.
Suits adventurers who:
- Want a goblin with genuine character and combat menace rather than a generic filler model
- Are building out a goblin warband with varied, dynamic poses
- Need a memorably sculpted enemy for low-level D&D encounters
- Enjoy painting layered textures — rope, chain, leather and hide all in one mini
- Are after a focused painting project that punches well above its weight on the shelf
Encounter Hook
The party has been tracking a string of caravan raids along the Thornfield Road. When they finally catch up with the culprits, they find not a mob but a single goblin crouched on a fence post outside an isolated farmhouse, mace resting on one shoulder, watching them with unsettling patience. Behind him, the barn doors are barred from the inside — and something inside is very much alive. Getting past him quietly, or loudly, sets the tone for everything that follows.
