The Capricalion is DM Stash's take on the classic chimera — and it is a thoroughly unsettling one. This sculpt presents a lion-bodied monstrosity mid-charge, its muscular frame surging forward on powerful clawed limbs. Two distinct heads emerge from the mane: the dominant lion face frozen in a full roar, teeth bared and eyes wide with feral rage, and a second goat-like head rising just behind, horns curling upward with an almost serene menace. The serpent tail arcs around the body, neck raised and forked tongue extended — a third threat the party might not notice until it's already too late.
The detail work across the whole sculpt is exceptional. The lion's mane flows in deep, dynamic waves, each strand individually defined. The body fur transitions convincingly from the thick chest to the coarser hindquarters, while the serpent's scales are individually sculpted and catch light from every angle. The base features broken rocky ground, adding to the sense of a creature that leaves destruction in its wake simply by moving through the landscape.
As a painting project, the Capricalion rewards adventurers who enjoy working across multiple textures in a single piece — fur, scale, and horn all in one composition. As a table centrepiece, it commands attention the moment it hits the mat.
A worthy choice for adventurers who:
- Need a chimera encounter that genuinely looks threatening on the table
- Want a multi-textured painting project with fur, scales, and bone all on one mini
- Are building a bestiary of large monstrosities for their campaign
- Collect display-quality creatures from independent artists
Encounter Hook: The party is two days out from the city of Veldrath when they find a farmstead reduced to splinter and ash. Tracks in the scorched earth — leonine, cloven, and a long sinuous drag-mark — lead north into the tall grass. Whatever made them has circled back. The grass is moving. It is not the wind.
