This set of six Lich Crypt Chests from Epic Miniatures brings atmospheric, character-laden scatter terrain to your dungeon table. Each chest is a distinct sculpt — no two are alike — ranging from iron-bound barrel-lidded trunks with padlocks and ring pulls, to ornate gothic chests adorned with skulls, winged death motifs, and spike-studded lids. Three of the six are shown open, lids raised and interiors hollow, ready to be dressed with loot tokens or left ominously empty. The remaining three sit closed, their decorative hardware telling stories of old hoards and darker magic.
The detail across the set is sharp and well-considered. The skull-crested chest features a winged emblem on the lid and a crossbone clasp on the front — the sort of chest a lich keeps their phylactery adjacent to, just to make a point. The spiked variants carry a more brutalist, warlike quality, suggesting plunder from a goblin warlord's haul or the personal treasure of a death knight. The simpler iron-riveted trunk with padlock reads as a merchant's strongbox gone to seed — equally at home in a cursed vault or a crime lord's back room.
These scatter pieces are as useful on the gaming table as they are in a display diorama. Place them in a crypt encounter to give players something to investigate, or use them as objective markers in a dungeon delve. Painted up in verdigris, aged iron, and cracked wood tones, they become the kind of props that make your players hesitate before reaching out a hand.
Adventurers who'll want these include:
- Dungeon Masters building out crypt, dungeon, or Underdark encounter rooms
- Terrain enthusiasts looking for varied, characterful loot scatter
- Painters who enjoy converting scatter pieces into display diorama centrepieces
- Any DM whose players have learned not to trust a chest that looks too inviting
Encounter Hook: The party enters the phylactery vault of the fallen lich Mordevex. Six chests line the walls — three open and empty, three locked tight with iron and bone. The Detect Magic cantrip lights up the room like a festival. One chest is not a chest at all. Roll initiative.
