Charon the Ferryman is one of the most iconic figures in myth and fantasy — the cold, impassive guardian of the boundary between the living and the dead. This sculpt by Mia Kay M3DM captures that dread presence with real artistry: a gaunt, hooded figure draped in layered tattered robes and a striking scale-decorated mantle, clutching a tall, rune-etched staff tipped with a broad spearhead. One hand reaches outward, fingers splayed — whether beckoning the newly dead or demanding their coin is left deliberately ambiguous.

The deep cowl conceals most of the face, leaving only hollowed, mask-like features visible beneath the shadow of the hood — an unsettling detail that rewards careful painting. The robes fall in heavy, wind-worn folds, suggesting a figure who has stood at the water's edge since before memory began. The scenic base adds scattered stonework underfoot, grounding the miniature in a liminal, desolate setting.

As a multipart miniature, Charon arrives ready to assemble. Base options let you tailor the final presentation: a decorative sculpted base fits the atmospheric display look, a plain round base suits the gaming table, or go baseless for diorama and custom basing projects.

  • Dungeon Masters running underworld arcs, Shadowfell campaigns, or Ravenloft adventures
  • Painters who want a characterful, large-scale-feeling sculpt with rich textile and detail work
  • Collectors drawn to mythological and psychopomp character types
  • Adventurers building out a display focused on death, fate, and the planes

Encounter Hook

The party reaches the bank of a black river that appears on no map. A figure stands motionless in the shallows — tall, hooded, staff planted in the silt. It does not speak. It simply extends one hand, palm upward, and waits. One of the party members has been marked by death before. The Ferryman is here to collect something left unpaid — and until the debt is settled, no one is crossing.
