Description

The chest has sat here longer than anyone can remember — bound in rusted chains, threaded through with grasping roots, its lock green with age and secrets.

  • ✔ Compatible with standard 28mm–32mm miniature scales
  • ✔ Works on the gaming table and as part of a display diorama

This Chained Coffin scatter piece from Atlanticus Arts is the kind of terrain that makes a dungeon room feel genuinely lived-in — or rather, long-abandoned. The chest is rendered in beautifully textured weathered wood, planks cracked and grain-worn across every surface. Heavy chain links loop over the lid and down the sides, sagging with rust and age, while gnarled roots and trailing tendrils creep across the boards as though the earth itself is reclaiming whatever lies within. The central lock plate is verdigris-stained bronze, its keyhole suggesting both temptation and danger in equal measure. A scatter of pebbles, moss, and roots forms a naturalistic base that anchors the piece without overpowering it.

The sculpt carries a real sense of narrative weight — this is not a chest that invites easy looting. Whether it's the focus of a trap encounter, a cursed object in a warlock's sanctum, or simply dressing for a forgotten crypt, it earns its place on the table the moment adventurers lay eyes on it. It's equally rewarding as a painting project for the display shelf, with the contrast of roughened wood, corroded metal, and organic root growth offering a wide range of techniques to explore.

This is a multipart sculpt and comes in both supported and unsupported variants, giving you the flexibility to use whichever suits your preferred workflow.

  • Adventurers who want scatter terrain with genuine character and detail
  • Dungeon Masters building out crypt, dungeon, or wilderness encounter tables
  • Painters who enjoy texturally varied subjects — wood, metal, and organic forms all in one piece
  • Anyone who wants a prop that silently tells a story before a word of narration is spoken

Encounter Hook: The party has been sent to retrieve a merchant's stolen ledger, last seen in the possession of a cult operating beneath the city. They find the ledger room easily enough — but the Chained Coffin at its centre is surrounded by three cultists mid-ritual, and the chains binding the lid have already begun to glow a sickly amber. Whatever is inside, it's waking up. The party has two rounds before the lock shatters.
