Cave Troll (Hyol Droll) by DM Stash

Something vast and reeking drags itself from the cave mouth, a stolen longsword clutched in one enormous fist and the gleam of low cunning behind its yellowed eyes — Hyol Droll has found fresh prey.

• ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
• ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
• ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
• ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

Cave trolls in D&D are already fearsome enough, but Hyol Droll is something a step beyond the typical tunnel-dweller. This sculpt captures a creature that has survived long enough to be dangerous — a massive, shaggy-furred troll whose body is wrapped in coarse matted fur and crude hide bindings, small curved horns jutting from a broad skull, and a snarling maw full of broken teeth. What sets Hyol Droll apart is the ornate longsword gripped in his right hand: clearly looted from a warrior far too foolish to flee, the blade is intricately detailed with a decorated crossguard that contrasts brilliantly with the beast's raw brutality. His free hand hangs low, clawed fingers loose — ready to rake across anyone who gets close enough.

The sculpt rewards painters and DMs alike. The layered fur texture across the shoulders, chest, and legs offers deep shadow recesses and raised tips that take drybrushing beautifully, while the rocky rubble base adds grounding and environmental storytelling. Whether you're placing Hyol Droll at the centre of a cavern ambush or setting him on a display shelf as a showpiece, the level of detail holds up from every angle — front, back, and side views all carry that same quality of craft. Equally suited to tabletop gaming and display collecting.

Perfect for adventurers who:

• Need a memorable cave or Underdark encounter that players won't forget
• Want a troll miniature with genuine character rather than a generic brute
• Are running a D&D 5e campaign featuring giant-type or regenerating monster encounters
• Enjoy a painting challenge with rich fur texture and contrasting weapon detail
• Collect large-scale fantasy miniatures for display as well as play

Encounter Hook:
The party's tracker finds the body of a missing knight — stripped of everything except one boot. Following the drag marks deeper into the ravine, they hear the rhythmic scrape of metal on stone before they see it: Hyol Droll, seated on a boulder, dragging the knight's longsword back and forth across the rock face, watching the sparks with dull fascination. He hasn't noticed them yet. He will.

Hyol Droll is printed at 32mm scale. The decorative scenic base is included and is designed to complement the model — the two pieces attach cleanly with superglue. As with all our miniatures, it arrives ready for priming and painting, or can be used straight away in its natural grey state. We quality-check every piece before it leaves us.
