This is one of those scenes that stops your players in their tracks. Two road-worn travellers are settled in for the evening: a long-bearded elder perched on a wooden stump, pipe in hand and a knowing smirk beneath all that hair, and a younger companion seated on a fallen log, fingers moving deftly across the strings of a lute. Between them, a barrel does double duty as a drinks table — flasks and bottles crowded on top — while a spit roast turns over a proper campfire, complete with a haunch of something that smells considerably better than trail rations.

Encounter Hook:

The elder greets them warmly, a little too warmly, and his companion never quite stops watching the tree line. Perception DC 14: one of the bottles on the barrel is sealed with a wax crest the party's rogue last saw in a burned-out safehouse three sessions ago.
