This is the second variant in Novaminis' Gnoll Campfire scatter terrain range, and it brings a distinctly brutal, mechanical edge to the campsite aesthetic. Where a simple fire pit might signal a traveller's rest, this piece tells a different story entirely. A bolted iron spit frame — complete with a hand-cranked winding mechanism — sits over a rough stone and log firepit, with a riveted cook pot settled beside it. The engineering is crude but purposeful, exactly the sort of improvised ironwork you'd expect from a gnoll warband that loots as readily as it hunts. Every surface has weight and texture: split logs, uneven fieldstone, and iron fixtures with chunky bolt detail that rewards a careful painter's brush.
As scatter terrain, this piece earns its place on the table beyond pure atmosphere. It provides cover, marks territory, and communicates to players without a single word from the DM — this is not a friendly camp. Encounter Hook:
The party crests a ridge to find a gnoll encampment below — three tents, a dying fire, and a spit still slowly turning with something on it. A DC 13 Perception check reveals the crank mechanism is still warm to the touch. A gnoll hunter returns with fresh quarry in under a minute. The party has thirty seconds to decide.
Scaled to 32mm and suited to D&D 5e, Pathfinder, and most fantasy TTRPG systems. Available with or without a plain black base — the base ships unattached and can be fixed in place with a small amount of glue.
