The Campestri is one of the more disarming inhabitants of the fantasy wilderness — a sentient mushroom creature with an expressive, almost cartoonishly joyful face that sits somewhere between charming NPC and unsettling encounter. This sculpt from The Toadstool Weaver captures that spirit brilliantly: a broad, rounded cap swept low over a stout stalk, with wide-set eyes and a gaping, laughing mouth that radiates pure chaotic goodwill. One small foot peeks out at the base, mid-shuffle, as if it's been caught mid-dance.
The render shows exceptional surface detail across the gill structure beneath the cap and subtle texture across the stalk itself — all of which will reward careful drybrushing or wet blending. Whether you paint it as a forest green fey oddity, a pale underground wanderer, or something genuinely unsettling in sickly yellows and browns, the face alone will draw every eye at your table.
As a miniature it occupies that wonderful space between monster and NPC — a Campestri might cheerfully guide the party through a forest, offer cryptic sing-song prophecy, or explode into a cloud of spores if someone accidentally treads on a cousin. Its expressive sculpt makes it just as rewarding as a display piece.
Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:
- Run forest-based campaigns with unusual flora and fungi encounters
- Need an endearing, paintable NPC to populate a Feywild grove or woodland clearing
- Enjoy collecting characterful creatures that sit apart from the standard monster roster
- Want a small but show-stopping display piece on their hobby shelf
- Are fans of weird, whimsical, personality-packed sculpts
Encounter Hook: As the party shelters beneath a great oak after a river crossing gone wrong, a grinning Campestri shuffles out of the ferns and announces — in a voice like distant bells — that it has been waiting for them. It knows the name of the one who sent them. It knows the name of the one they haven't met yet. And it would very much like a song in return for the information.
