The bulette — the landshark, the terror of open plains and shallow tunnels alike — is one of D&D's most viscerally threatening monsters. This fourth sculpt in the range captures it at rest, coiled and low to the ground, its armoured bulk folded and its claws braced against the earth. It is not sleeping. It is waiting. The pose conveys exactly the kind of patient, prehistoric menace that makes bulettes so effective as encounter pieces — this creature does not posture or roar. It simply gets ready.
The sculpt rewards a careful painter. The hide is rendered with layered, overlapping plates across the back and flanks, giving way to smoother, more vulnerable flesh around the joints and underbelly. The wing-like dorsal fins — that distinctive silhouette — are fully detailed, and the splayed claws speak to a creature built for bursting upward through packed earth at speed. Whether displayed unpainted or worked up with a weathered earth-tone palette, this makes a striking addition to any collection.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run wilderness or underground encounters and want a monster with genuine presence
- Are building a bestiary collection and want multiple bulette poses for variety
- Enjoy painting large, texture-rich creature sculpts
- Want a display-worthy centrepiece that holds its own on a shelf alongside painted heroes
Encounter Hook:
The patrol hired the party to escort grain wagons across the Thornfield — three miles of flat, open ground with nowhere to run. They are one mile in when the lead horse stops dead, ears flat, and the driver goes very quiet. The ground to the east is rippling.
