There's something deeply unsettling about a Bugbear who is simultaneously capable of ending a combat in two rounds and tender enough to cradle a rabbit like it's made of spun glass. This sculpt by MZ4250 leans into that contradiction beautifully — a barrel-chested brute in scale-and-fur armour, axe resting casually at his side, holding a small owl or rabbit with the careful attention of someone who absolutely does not want to be asked about it.
The details reward close attention: layered scale mail across the chest, riveted pauldrons, fur-wrapped greaves bound with crossed leather straps, and a broad belt stamped with a wheel motif. His pointed ears, heavy brow, and fanged jaw give him the classic Bugbear silhouette, but the creature tucked against his chest introduces a note of unexpected character that makes this mini genuinely memorable — whether you're using him as a wandering enforcer, a pack leader with an unusual soft spot, or something far stranger.
This variation is one of several poses in MZ4250's Bugbear Barbarian series — each offering a different take on the same archetype. This particular sculpt is the one with the bunny, which honestly says everything you need to know about why it stands out.
Suits adventurers who:
- Want a Bugbear mini with genuine personality beyond the standard snarling brute
- Are building out a goblinoid warband that needs a memorable sergeant or pack leader
- Appreciate the storytelling potential of unexpected character details
- Paint character pieces for display as well as dropping them on the table mid-session
- Run encounters where the Bugbear being calm is somehow more threatening than if he were angry
Encounter Hook
The party finds the village livestock untouched — but one of the goats is wearing a crude necklace of carved bone. At the treeline, something large is watching. When the Bugbear finally steps into the light, axe trailing behind him, there's a small grey rabbit sitting contentedly on his shoulder. He wants to talk. He says this very quietly. The rabbit does not move.
