Description

Nobody in the market district could explain where the crate came from — only that the sign read 'FREE', the kittens inside had six legs, and three merchants were already missing their coin purses.

  • ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

Displacer beasts are among the most unsettling predators in the Monster Manual — creatures that bend light to appear elsewhere, all coiled muscle and writhing tentacles. These kittens haven't quite mastered that trick yet, but the knack is clearly there. Sculpted with enormous charm by Mia Kay M3DM, this piece captures two young displacer beast cubs peering over the rim of a rough-hewn wooden crate, their club-tipped tentacles curling over the sides and their oversized eyes wide with mischief. The crate itself bears a boldly carved 'FREE' sign — a detail that tells its own story before a single die has been rolled.

Whether you're placing it in a city market as a curious plot hook, using it to represent a warlock's exotic familiar, or simply adding something genuinely characterful to your display shelf, this is a miniature that earns its place at the table. Two variations are included in the range — a twin-cub version with both kittens crammed together, and a single-cub version with one adventurous kitten sprawling out over the crate's edge.

A good fit for adventurers who:

  • Run city-based or merchant-quarter encounters with an unexpected twist
  • Need a memorable and slightly alarming NPC prop or warlock familiar
  • Collect characterful fantasy creatures that sit somewhere between monster and mascot
  • Want a painting project with bags of personality — those tentacle clubs and wide eyes reward careful brushwork

Encounter Hook:
The party spots a crate in the Silvergate bazaar, unattended and labelled 'FREE'. Inside, two six-legged kittens blink up at them with unsettling calm. A DC 14 Nature check reveals what they are. A failed check means someone has already picked one up. Either way, the original owner is watching from the crowd — and they are not pleased.
