Description

Tucked into the shadowed corner of a wizard's tower, the bookcase stands floor to ceiling — its shelves groaning with tomes that no sane scholar would dare read aloud.

  • ✔ Resin terrain piece, printed fresh to order in the UK
  • ✔ Supplied unpainted — primes and paints easily
  • ✔ Compatible with standard 28mm–32mm miniature scales
  • ✔ Works on the gaming table and as part of a display diorama

Whether it guards the entrance to an arcane library, lines the study of a wealthy noble, or conceals a secret passage in a dungeon manor, this bookcase is the kind of scatter terrain that transforms a flat encounter map into a believable space. The sculpt features a commanding double-bay cabinet design with gothic pointed arches framing each shelf section, ornate carved pilasters at either side, and a decorative broken-pediment cornice at the top. Four shelves per bay are packed with books of varying heights — some neatly upright, others leaning or stacked flat — giving it the lived-in, slightly chaotic character of a collection actually used rather than merely displayed. Below the open shelving, a panelled cabinet section with gothic lancet motifs adds further architectural detail.

The level of detail here rewards patient painters. Washes and dry-brushing will bring the book spines to life, while careful edge highlights on the carved woodwork will make the gothic stonework-inspired frame feel genuinely monumental at tabletop scale. Paint it dark walnut and aged leather for a Ravenloft library, pale stone for an Underdark scholarly enclave, or bleached oak for an Arthurian great hall.

Particularly well-suited for adventurers who:

  • Run investigation or mystery sessions where the environment does storytelling work
  • Want to furnish a wizard's tower, noble's study, or temple archive
  • Love scatter terrain with architectural character rather than plain props
  • Are building a display diorama around a scholar, sage, or arcane caster

Encounter Hook: The party enters the private library of the missing Magister Evaine. Her notes reference a tome called The Hollowed Compendium — but as the rogue reaches for the shelf where it should be, the entire bookcase shudders, pivots silently on a hidden mechanism, and reveals a staircase descending into absolute darkness.
