Beast of the Deep One (Shogdog) by DM Stash

Something wet and many-eyed pulled itself from the harbour last night — the fishermen who saw it didn't come back, and the ones who heard it wished they hadn't.

The Shogdog is the Deep One's faithful horror — if faithful means something that obeys only hunger and eldritch compulsion. This sculpt captures the creature mid-lunge across a rubble-strewn base, its four splayed limbs driving it forward while a writhing crown of thick, barbed tentacles coils and reaches above its body mass. Dozens of unblinking eyes cluster across its hide — along its torso, flanks, and even across the tentacles themselves — giving the impression that every angle of the battlefield is already being watched. The skin is a riot of organic texture: deep segmented folds, overlapping scale-like ridges, and puckered membranes that suggest something evolved too far from anything natural.

The open maw faces downward and forward, lined with irregular teeth, while the creature's posture is low and predatory — weight on the front limbs, rear haunches coiled as if about to spring. The scenic base grounds it in broken cobblestone and sharp crystalline growth, making it read as an intrusion from somewhere it was never meant to be. This is a multipart miniature that assembles into one cohesive and deeply unsettling display, equally compelling as a painted showpiece on a shelf or as the centrepiece of a cosmic horror encounter.

Adventurers who enjoy painting non-Euclidean textures, layered eye clusters, and deeply organic sculpts will find this one genuinely rewarding. The tentacles offer excellent opportunities for wet blending and glazing, while the eye clusters reward careful highlighting to bring out their unsettling depth.

• ✔ Suits DMs running cosmic horror, Lovecraftian, or aberration-heavy campaigns
• ✔ A centrepiece model for Shadow Over Westlook or similar sanity-bending arcs
• ✔ Rewarding for painters who enjoy complex organic textures and layered detail
• ✔ Equally compelling as a painted display piece or a tabletop encounter monster

Encounter Hook: The party is investigating disappearances along the Westlook docks when a fisherman's overturned boat drifts into the harbour — and something beneath it surfaces. The Shogdog does not attack immediately. It simply watches, every eye trained on the group, tentacles slowly spreading above the waterline. The DC 14 Wisdom saving throw comes before initiative is even rolled.
