The Beast Merchant is one of those rare sculpts that tells an entire story before a single die is rolled. A lean, staff-bearing figure stands centre-stage, armoured and composed, while behind him rears an enormous horned predator — fangs exposed, claws splayed, a reinforced cage mounted across its back containing something that rattles when it moves. At his heel, a small fox-like creature keeps watch. Whether this merchant is the beast's master, its partner, or simply the one holding the leash is entirely up to your campaign to decide.
This is a character built for moral ambiguity. A wilderness trader operating beyond guild law, a collector of rare and dangerous creatures, or perhaps a front for something far darker — the Beast Merchant brings narrative weight to any encounter. Equally compelling on a game table during a tense negotiation scene as it is on a display shelf alongside your finest painted pieces.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Need a memorable, lore-rich NPC to anchor a wilderness or black-market encounter
- Are building a dark fantasy or morally complex campaign arc
- Want a centrepiece miniature that doubles as a display-worthy collector's piece
- Are looking for a standout boss or recurring antagonist with genuine presence
Encounter Hook:
The party has been tracking a series of disappearances along the trade road — livestock first, then a shepherd, then two guards. When they finally locate the source, they find a lone figure camped at a forest crossroads, staff planted in the earth, a caged shape behind him shifting in the dark. He greets them warmly. He has a price for everything. He would very much like to know if they've seen anything unusual on the road.
Details
This miniature is supplied at 35mm scale — if you'd prefer 32mm scaling, send us a message and we'll adjust it for you. A decorative base option is available; if selected, please include a note with your preferred base style from the three options (the base is supplied separately and attaches easily with a small amount of glue). The mini arrives with supports removed, fully cured, and ready for priming and painting — or use it straight from the box if grey resin is your style.
