Description

Every tavern has its resident musician — but few patrons expect the evening's entertainment to arrive on leathery wings, perch atop the ale barrel, and launch into a ballad that makes grown fighters weep into their tankards.

  • ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
  • ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
  • ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

This Bat Folk Bard is a character sculpt bursting with personality. He's perched mid-performance atop a riveted ale barrel — one boot planted on the ground, the other braced against the barrel's side — strumming a multi-stringed lute with clear enthusiasm. Mouth wide open in full song, wide bat ears framing a broad-brimmed hat, and a thick rope-wrapped guitar strap slung across a quilted gambeson: this is a performer who commands attention whether he's wanted it or not.

The detail carries through to the back of the sculpt — the barrel even has a small tap fitted to the rear, and the strap wraps convincingly around his torso. There's a long, thin tail trailing from behind, grounding the creature as distinctly bat-kin rather than simply a humanoid in a hat. The quilted texture of the gambeson is rendered with real care, and the lute's tuning pegs are clearly defined — a pleasure to paint and an excellent test piece for anyone who enjoys picking out fine details with a brush.

Whether you play him as a roguish college-of-lore bard working the tavern circuit for coin and gossip, a local NPC who always seems to know more than he lets on, or a full player character with a flair for the dramatic, this sculpt carries the character of someone who has absolutely been thrown out of better establishments than this one — and intends to return.

  • Adventurers building out a lively tavern scene with memorable NPCs
  • Players running a Bat Folk or monstrous humanoid bard character
  • Dungeon Masters who want an encounter centrepiece that sparks conversation
  • Painters looking for a sculpt with rich surface texture and expressive character
  • Collectors drawn to quirky, charismatic non-human musicians

Encounter Hook

The party enters the Gilded Rat tavern in search of a fence rumoured to deal in stolen relics. Before they can ask a single question, the bat-eared bard on the barrel launches into a ballad — word for word — about the last group of adventurers who came looking for the same fence. He clearly knows exactly who they are. He winks. He doesn't stop playing. The fence, it turns out, is his manager.
