The Barbed Devil, known in the infernal hierarchy as the Hamatula, is one of the Nine Hells' most feared foot soldiers — a lean, vicious fiend whose very body is a weapon. This sculpt by The Toadstool Weaver captures that menace with sharp clarity: a tall, sinewy figure with an elongated horned skull, fanged jaws parted in a snarl, and thick curved barbs erupting from its lower body and clawed feet. One arm is raised high, the other reaching forward as though about to seize its quarry — the pose radiates coiled, predatory threat. The base integrates seamlessly, with grasping barbed tendrils erupting from the ground around its taloned feet as though the creature drags a little of Avernus with it wherever it walks.
For Dungeon Masters, this is the face of infernal law at its most visceral. Hamatulas serve as guardians, hunters, and muscle for more powerful devils — they don't negotiate, they enforce. Whether you're running a descent into the Nine Hells, a diabolical cult story arc, or a warlock patron encounter gone very wrong, this miniature carries genuine menace at the table. Painted or unpainted, it holds its own as a display piece too.
Well-suited for adventurers who:
- Need a formidable devil encounter for D&D 5e or other TTRPG systems
- Are running infernal-themed campaigns, devilish contracts, or Nine Hells adventures
- Want a characterful boss monster or elite enemy mini for their collection
- Enjoy painting infernal creatures with dramatic detail — the barbs and musculature reward careful brushwork
Encounter Hook:
The tiefling warlock thought the pact was sealed — but the Hamatula standing in the doorway of the inn is holding a second contract, unsigned, with the party's names already written at the bottom. It does not sit down. It does not speak first. It simply waits.
