Baby Kelpie by Mia Kay M3DM
Description
It looks like a lost foal, all hollow eyes and trembling legs — but the webbed hooves and the river-cold stare tell a different story.
- ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
- ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
- ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf
The kelpie is one of folklore's most treacherous creatures: a shapeshifting water spirit that takes the form of a horse to lure travellers close before dragging them beneath the surface. This baby kelpie sculpt captures that same unsettling duality — the form of something innocent, the reality of something ancient and predatory. The finned legs root it firmly in the supernatural, and the downturned head gives it an air of false docility that any seasoned DM will know how to use.
Whether you're placing it in a misty riverside encounter, a Feywild location where nature is not quite what it seems, or as a companion creature to a hag or water spirit, this miniature carries genuine narrative weight. It's equally at home on a display shelf as it is on the gaming table.
Perfect for adventurers who:
- Run encounters near rivers, lakes, marshes, or Feywild waterways
- Need a creature that looks harmless but isn't — a trap with legs
- Are building a fey wilderness or nature-horror themed campaign
- Collect unusual beast miniatures for painting projects or display
Encounter Hook:
The party spots a small horse standing alone at the edge of the flooded mill pond, one leg raised as though injured. A DC 14 Nature check reveals the hooves are webbed. A DC 12 Insight check reveals it has been watching them since they arrived.
