- ✔ Supplied unpainted — ideal as a centrepiece painting project
- ✔ Designed for display shelves and painting competitions
The Avatar of Winter is not a god of snow and sledges. It is the cold that kills slowly, the forest that closes in, the antlered darkness that waits at the treeline when the fire goes out. This bust captures that primal dread in extraordinary detail — a hollow-eyed face erupting from a mass of gnarled bark, writhing root tendrils, and skeletal branch-like protrusions that claw upward like frozen lightning. The expression is somewhere between predatory calm and barely-contained fury, framed by layered organic textures that would challenge and reward any painter willing to take it on.
As a display bust, this piece is built for depth — for washes pooling in bark crevices, for drybrushing catching the tips of those reaching tendrils, for a colour palette that might range from icy blue-whites and dead greys to deep forest greens and corrupted browns. It sits on a sturdy sculpted plinth base that anchors the composition and gives it genuine shelf presence. For Dungeon Masters, it makes a compelling visual reference for an elemental deity, a corrupted nature spirit, a druidic nightmare, or the true face behind a fey bargain gone wrong.
A solid choice for adventurers who:
- Want a challenging and rewarding display painting project
- Are building a shelf collection of dark fantasy and elemental busts
- Need visual inspiration for a nature horror villain, corrupted fey lord, or elemental patron
- Appreciate organic, texture-heavy sculpts with real painting depth
- Are looking for a striking centrepiece that holds its own without paint
Encounter Hook:
The party has been hired to investigate a village where the crops died overnight and the livestock were found half-buried in sudden frost. Following the trail into the woodland, they discover a shrine to an old nature spirit — now cracked, overgrown, and weeping sap like blood. As the ranger reaches out to touch the effigy, the trees around them go silent. Then, slowly, something that was not there a moment ago turns its antlered head towards them from the dark between the oaks.
