Description
He has walked the planes, rewritten the laws of magic, and forgotten more spells than most wizards ever learn — and he is very much done being trifled with.
- ✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK
- ✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime
- ✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs
- ✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf
This miniature captures Mordenkainen at his most commanding — a bald, broad-shouldered archmage in a quilted greatcoat and sweeping cape, adorned with a heavy medallion chain across the collar. One hand is raised and open, fingers splayed mid-incantation, while the other grips an ornate arcane blade: a long, slender sword mounted in a complex ring-and-orb crossguard that speaks of enchantment far beyond simple metalwork. His expression is cold and certain — a man who has already calculated the outcome and found it satisfactory.
The sculpt rewards careful painting across a range of textures: the fine diamond quilting of the coat, the layered folds of the cape, the intricate mechanical geometry of the sword's guard, and the smooth planes of a shaved head bearing a single arcane marking at the brow. Whether you render him in the deep blues and silvers of a planar traveller or the dark, austere palette of a morally ambiguous schemer, the detail is there to carry it.
As a 5e NPC, Mordenkainen is one of the most narratively loaded figures in the canon — archmage, planeswalker, founder of the Circle of Eight, and architect of a dozen plot hooks. This miniature works equally well as the legendary wizard himself, a reskinned archmage BBEG, a powerful mentor figure, or a display piece for any arcane-themed shelf.
This miniature suits adventurers who:
- Run high-level campaigns where Mordenkainen appears as an ally, adversary, or inscrutable third party
- Need a high-quality archmage sculpt for any spellcaster-heavy encounter
- Want a display piece that captures the gravitas of D&D's most iconic wizard
- Are building out a Ravenloft, Planescape, or Greyhawk-adjacent campaign setting
Encounter Hook
The party arrives at the appointed meeting place — a crumbling tower on a cliff above a grey sea — to find Mordenkainen already there, sword planted in the flagstones, one hand raised as though holding back something they cannot see. He does not turn. He says only: "You are twelve minutes late. Twelve minutes ago, this was salvageable." The question is: salvageable for whom?
