The Archelon is the ocean encounter your players won't see coming. Based on one of the largest sea turtles to have ever existed, this sculpt captures the creature mid-swim: broad, leathery flippers extended, jaw slightly agape, and that distinctive ridged carapace cutting through the water with quiet menace. Whether you're running a nautical campaign, a coastal wilderness arc, or a deep-sea dungeon delve, this miniature brings genuine scale and presence to the encounter mat.
The sculpt leans into the creature's prehistoric weight — this is no gentle beach turtle. The textured skin, the open maw, and the powerful flipper pose communicate something ancient and territorial. Equally at home as a wandering monster in open waters, a guardian beast bound to a sea deity, or simply a breathtaking piece on a display shelf beside your painted fleet.
Well suited to adventurers who:
- Run nautical or coastal D&D and TTRPG campaigns
- Need a large Beast-type creature for ocean or river encounters
- Collect sea-themed miniatures for display
- Want a distinctive creature that rewards creative painting — deep ocean blues, barnacle textures, and bioluminescent accents spring to mind
Encounter Hook:
Three days out from Saltmere, the party spots a shape rising beneath the hull — enormous, slow, and entirely unafraid. The creature surfaces with a sound like a breaking wave, regards the ship with one ancient eye, and opens its beak. The local fisherfolk call it the Warden of the Reach. No one has ever asked it what it wants. Today might be the day.
