The Animated Armour is one of D&D's most unsettling Constructs — not because it is powerful, but because it is wrong. Full plate, articulated and polished, moving with purpose through a dungeon corridor or manor hall with no warmth behind the visor. It exists to guard, to obey, and to attack without hesitation or mercy. There is no creature to persuade, no mind to detect. Just hollow metal, ancient command, and outstretched gauntlets closing around the nearest adventurer.
This sculpt from MZ4250's 2025 Monster Manual range captures that menace with real intent. The miniature shows a full-plate knight in a wide, low stance — arms extended, fingers splayed, as though mid-reach or braced for a grapple. The armour design is clean and purposeful: segmented pauldrons, articulated gauntlets, knee guards, a skirted tasset, and a visored great helm. There is no weapon, no shield — just the armour itself as the threat. It sits on a plain round base and reads clearly at 32mm scale, whether you're fielding it across a dungeon room or placing it on a display shelf.
Suited to adventurers who:
- Need a Construct monster for D&D 5e or any fantasy TTRPG encounter
- Are running a dungeon, crypt, haunted manor, or wizard's tower scenario
- Want an NPC guardian that doubles as a display piece between sessions
- Enjoy painting metallics and experimenting with weathered or enchanted armour effects
Encounter Hook:
The party is hired to retrieve a stolen artefact from an abandoned noble estate. The house is silent, the rooms untouched — until they reach the great hall, where three suits of armour stand in a row along the far wall. Two of them are on plinths. The third is three feet closer than it was a moment ago.
