Alligator Hunting by Epic Miniatures

This large-based alligator sculpt from Epic Miniatures is a beautifully observed piece — low to the ground, jaws spread wide in a threat display, and covered in rows of individually sculpted scutes running from the base of the skull all the way to the tip of the whip-thin tail. The texture across the body shifts convincingly between the rougher, knobbled armour plates of the back and the smoother, cross-hatched hide of the underbelly and legs. The open mouth reveals rows of teeth and a detailed interior — a rewarding detail for painters willing to work into the recesses.
Mounted on a large 51mm oval base, this sculpt sits low and long — occupying genuine table space in the way a real crocodilian would. That footprint makes it a natural Large creature in D&D terms, suiting it for use as the alligator stat block from the Monster Manual, a scaled-up giant crocodile, or a druid's Wild Shape token for swamp-dwelling circles. The pose is deliberately grounded and naturalistic — no dramatic rearing — which makes it feel genuinely dangerous rather than theatrical.
Whether you paint it as a murky olive-green swamp dweller, a pale albino cave specimen, or something more exotic for a desert oasis encounter, the surface detail holds up under washes and drybrushing with satisfying clarity.
A fine choice for adventurers who:
- Run swamp, jungle, or wetland wilderness encounters and want a convincing apex predator on the table
- Need a Large creature token for alligator or giant crocodile stat blocks
- Play druids who Wild Shape into reptilian forms and want a dedicated token
- Enjoy painting naturalistic wildlife miniatures as display pieces
- Are building a river delta, bayou, or flooded ruin encounter environment
Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to retrieve a scholar's notes from a flooded temple in the river delta — but as they wade through the shallows towards the entrance, one of them realises the log they stepped around thirty seconds ago has quietly turned to face them. The water barely ripples. The jaws are already open.
