The Remorhaz is one of D&D's most distinctive apex predators — a colossal arctic worm bristling with legs, horns, and barely contained heat — and this sculpt from Epic Miniatures does full justice to its monstrous scale. The miniature is rendered at Huge size, and every centimetre earns it: the serpentine body curves upward from a rocky rubble base in a dramatic rearing pose, the segmented torso lined with spines and dozens of scrabbling clawed limbs. A single membrane wing splays wide from the upper body, adding asymmetric menace to the silhouette.
The head is where the sculpt truly excels. Long curving horns sweep back from a face dominated by bulging compound eyes and a wide-open maw packed with jagged teeth, with a curling sensory tendril hanging beneath the jaw. Every surface texture has been given careful attention — chitin-like plating on the back, softer segmented flesh on the underside, rough stone on the integrated base — giving painters a wealth of detail to bring out with washes, drybrushing, and spot colour. The scale reference in the image confirms this is a commanding centrepiece piece, towering well above standard 32mm figures.
Particularly well suited to adventurers who:
- Run arctic campaigns and want a boss encounter that dominates the table physically as much as mechanically
- Enjoy painting complex creature textures — chitin, membrane, and organic plating all in one sculpt
- Need a Huge-category monster for 5e Remorhaz stat blocks or homebrew apex predator encounters
- Collect large creature minis as display centrepieces alongside their gaming collection
- Want an Underdark alternative for their wandering monster tables — the Remorhaz tunnels deep
Encounter Hook
The merchant caravan they were escorting never made it past the Thornpeak Pass. Now the party stands at the entrance to a tunnel bored clean through the glacier — walls glassy-smooth, edges scorched by impossible heat — and from somewhere below, the ice is beginning to vibrate. The Remorhaz has been feeding on travellers for weeks. Today, it is still hungry.
