Tyranny of Dragons Campaign Log - Session 5 - Chapter 3 Tyranny of Dragons Campaign Log - Session 5 - Chapter 3

Hello and Welcome!

In this session we continued with Chard, Dafnae, and Torsion as they returned from their daring rescue of the captured Villagers to the safety of Greenest.

The three had a much deserved long rest after a very busy few days and awoke refreshed in the barracks ready to explore Greenest.

The day was spent checking up on the 8 villagers that they rescued to see how they are fairing after their ordeal and to see if they could learn any news.

The Adventurers checked up on :

  • The Blacksmith - the three had a nice chat and a nice cup of tea (prepared by the Blacksmith's eager young son) and helped him tend to his wounded hands.
  • The Tavern Owner - he was quite saddened by the severe damage the raiders did to the tavern - it will need a lot of work before they can serve again at the Thirsty Farmer Inn
  • The Serving Maid - now recovering with her family, she is glad to hear that her job will be there waiting for her when the Tavern is rebuilt (she was a favourite there and everyone was very happy with her hospitality)
  • The Farmhand - she was relieved to be saved and returned to work to feel some normality after the hard few months she and her partner experienced prior to the attack with the loss they suffered - they were relieved to be back together
  • The Elf Merchant - unsure of how to restart his life after having lost his caravan and his friends, he is eager to leave with the next caravan to try to restart in one of the big cities
  • The Weaver - luckily her shop was not damaged much in the raid so she will get back to work soon and help others in the town
  • The Halfling Farmer - he was not found as he went back to his farm and no one was sure where he lived
  • The Noble Bard - he is a bit of a character, as most Bards are, and was more than happy to ensure the Heroes that he will write them into his next ballad

The information learned confirmed that there was something secretive going on in the cave which many referred to as the Nursery but no one was sure what it was.

But most importantly, they were eager to speak with Brother Leosin. He was still recovering from his wounds and so they had to call upon him the next day.

Another rest in the Barracks and the Trio went to seek out Leosin again and he was well enough to speak with them. He informed them that the leader of the Cult was really Rezmir (the Black Half-Dragon) and that this splinter of the Cult was interested in resurrecting Tiamat to rule under a different interpretation of the Prophecy such that the living Dragons will Rule the Dead. This is most alarming to Leosin and so he asks the three to go back and do some more reconnaissance to see what the Bandits are up to next.

They agreed and planned to leave for the Camp again in 4 days. They spent the time in Greenest to wait for the next merchant Caravan to show up to ensure that supplies were making it and worked to help clear up the rubble at the site of the Thirsty Farmer to help rebuild effort because after all the Tavern is the heart of any town.

The next Caravan arrived without incident and they reported that there was no incident upon the road. So the Adventurers set out to see what else they could learn about the Cultists.

The trek to the Camp went off without incident and again they took the high road to scout out from above. They checked where they had tied up Dave to find that he had somehow managed to escape. So we will find out later what fate befell Dave - perhaps they will run into him again!

Scouting the Camp the three came to see very clearly that the camp was more or less abandoned. Everyone has cleared out! All they could see were two of the four hunters they had spotted earlier around a campfire.

So they decided to go back in and explore what they could find. They went in, checking tents along the way and just saw regular discarded items. They camp dwellers had indeed left, not in a hurry, but on to somewhere else.

The hunters didn't seem to be a threat and so they engaged in conversation that they are still there to bring back food for the few people still remaining in the cave but otherwise they are not interested in the work they are up to. They get payment for the hunting they do for the game in the meadows and that is enough for them.

Deeper into the camp they found the same - empty tends. Even the main tent where Frulam and Rezmir and Cyanwrath were was emptied.

So on they went and reached the cave entrance. No one was around and so they entered cautiously, not knowing what may be waiting for them inside.

There was an initial encounter with a pair of Cultists was easy enough to win. Followed by a trapped staircase which slid the Hero's down to a pair of Violet Fungi which were easy to defeat.

Deeper still they went and they came upon a large cavern filled with Bats. Being careful, they tried to adventure deeper without alerting them but they made too much noise and then they had to protect themselves from the swarming bats. While the bats were fluing around, two Ambush Drakes sniffed out the Party and then another battle ensued. It was not too difficult (Chard even landed a Crit!).

On the other end of the cavern the three found a food store with lots of meat hung to dry (they took a bit of the meat to use later in case there was more Drakes - maybe they can be pacified?).

In the other corner of the Cavern they found a large trash heap. Nothing else in here.

But as they climbed back up to the main cavern a random roving group of Kobolds surprised the Party but they were easy to defeat as well.

And this is where the session ended. So we will pick up with Dafnae, Chard, and Torsion when they continue their exploration of the Cave.

The session was fun with a good combination of roleplaying and proper cave diving. At level 3 now, the Heroes are much more robust and can do a lot more things. Dafnae is proving herself as the sneaky assassin with the highest kill count thanks to her sneak attack and high attack / damage rolls.

Its good fun and excited to keep going!

Happy continued gaming and painting!

-Pete (with Mitz & Simz & now also Torsion, Dafnae, & Chard)
