Mitz & Simz Characters
Hello & Welcome!
I wanted to finally take some time to write about the new designs on the Thank You card inserts that we add into the packaging.
For our repeat customers who have been with us since the early days, I had been using a generic, branded, thank you card as an insert. The purpose of that card was to thank the customer for their purchase, give them information about our social media presence, and to direct them to our website.
But after a while of using them, I felt that they were too generic and I wanted something more / better. Of course, as a first go at a thank you card, I was very happy with them but as I had more and more repeat customers, I felt that I wanted to give something extra to my customers.
So I had a vision in mind that it would be so awesome to have different character representations of the core 13 D&D character classes using MItz & Simz. I have no artistic ability so this stayed a dream.
That is, until I got some help!
Fast forward to a good customer of mine who owns and runs GCGD - a graphics design company. I had done him a few different custom orders (my favourite was a classic War of the Worlds Fighting Machine) as well as some other custom pieces for use in his Talisman games.
We got to chatting (hint hint - I like when customers reach out - don't be shy!) and brought up the question if there would be any interest in working together on a collaboration project and bring the vision to life.
And sure enough, Guy agreed and we set to work.
We exchanged various ideas and soon we came up with several great ideas of how Mitz & Simz can be used to represent the core Classes.
But it really came down to the magical talent of one of his colleagues, Lauren Hopkins (@laurenhopkins_art) and working closely with her to where the vision fully came to life.
She was able to take the idea and some ideas I had and in just a few iterations for each character was able to create something that not only embodied the core aspects of each Class, but also embedded almost the very essence of Mitz & Simz themselves. Mind, she had not met the cats, but with a few photos and stories shared, she really understood the true nature of their characters and it shows in how they represent each Class.
I was so happy and thrilled with the amazing work that Lauren was able to create. They exceeded even my wildest expectations and they really help extend our brand and who we are what we are all about. So this way we can give a more special / unique Thank You to all of our customers.
The feedback has been wonderful to hear. Lots of you are really enjoying them and it really is great to get such comments back. Several have said they are determined to collect them all. Some have mentioned they are posted on their fridge while others use them as bookmarks (you can never have too many bookmarks).
We include one at random with all orders. For long time repeat customers and mystery box subscribers we try to include a new one each time so that they can eventually get the entire set. And for those customers that reach out and want a specific one for their favourite class, we are happy to oblige as well - just reach out to us.
We wanted to create something unique to us and something that our customers would like and not just discard after each purchase. And thanks to Laura, we have achieved just that.
And it is important to celebrate artists creating genuine art. Whether it is great 3D models, our cats as D&D Heroes, or even the DM and players weaving the intricate story arcs, its great to create something.
At its very core, D&D (and similar games) is a social game. And this is why we love to hear from you so get in touch. You never know what might happen! Remember for your games too - so go ahead and talk to that NPC because you never know what surprise or adventure or side-quest they may have to offer. It may be a shame to miss out! And we are glad we followed this side quest because Lauren and Guy created something unique to us to help our brand and we hope everyone will continue to enjoy them!
And we are hoping to do some more stuff with them in the future whenever time allows so watch this space.
Please keep the comments coming and do get in touch.
Until next time, happy gaming and happy painting!
-Pete & Mitz & Simz (which Character Class is your favourite - do let us know!)
