The Crystal Lizard — known in some campaign lore as the Salansi — is a creature that blurs the line between mineral and monster. Erupting from a bed of jagged amethyst formations, this low-slung predator is no mere reptile. Its hide is encrusted with razor-edged crystal growths that erupt from its spine, shoulders, and whip-like tail, while its blunt, snarling head is framed by a crown of shorter shards — part natural armour, part territorial display. The sculpt captures the beast mid-stalk, body coiled close to the cavern floor, one clawed foot pressed into the rubble, the other braced for a lunge. Every scale, every faceted crystal face, and every claw tip has been rendered with the kind of specificity that makes this as compelling on a display shelf as it is at the centre of the table.
Whether you're running an Underdark delve, a Lost Mine of Phandelver-style dungeon crawl, or crafting a lair boss encounter around a crystalline cave network, this miniature gives that set piece real visual weight. It's also a rewarding painting project — the contrast between fine reptilian scales and broad geometric crystal surfaces offers two completely different painting challenges in a single model.
A good fit for adventurers who:
- Need a distinctive Underdark predator or lair guardian for a D&D 5e encounter
- Want a boss-tier creature miniature with serious table presence
- Are building a crystal cavern, geode dungeon, or elemental-themed campaign
- Collect fantasy creature miniatures for display as well as play
- Enjoy detailed painting projects with varied surface textures
Encounter Hook:
The party's map marks the amethyst chamber as empty — but the surveyor who drew it was never seen again. As they step inside, the largest crystal cluster shifts, slowly unfurls, and fixes eight glittering eyes on the intruders who dared enter its feeding ground.
Details
Printed at 32mm scale. The model and its crystal-strewn base are provided as separate pieces for easier painting — a small amount of superglue is all that's needed to assemble them. Note that this sculpt is designed to interact with its base, and the two work best displayed together. Each mini is printed to order and individually checked before dispatch; minor imperfections inherent to the printing process are possible but any residual marks are easily tidied up before priming.
