The Aboleth is one of the oldest and most unsettling creatures in the D&D bestiary — a being of pre-divine memory, capable of enslaving minds across vast distances and reshaping flesh to serve its inscrutable purposes. This sculpt captures that wrongness beautifully: a bloated, fish-like body covered in wrinkled, leathery skin, crowned with dorsal fins and small curling horns, and ringed at the maw with concentric rows of jagged, uneven teeth. Below, thick tentacles coil and twist rather than merely hang — suggesting slow, deliberate movement rather than aggression. Every fold of skin, every ridge of cartilage, speaks to something ancient and deeply alien.

Three render angles showcase the full sculpt: face-on, the gaping circular maw dominates and the coiled tentacles frame the body like roots; from the side, the fish-like profile and long sweeping tail fin become clear; from the rear quarter, the dorsal and pectoral fin detail and the full curl of the tentacle mass come into view. The detail work across the skin texture — cracked and layered like something that has never known sunlight — makes this as compelling a display piece as it is a centrepiece encounter model.

A compelling choice for adventurers who:

  • Need a centrepiece boss creature for an Underdark or aquatic horror arc
  • Are running mind-control, body-horror, or elder-evil campaign themes
  • Want a high-detail display piece that holds its own unpainted or painted
  • Are building an aberration collection alongside Mind Flayers, Cloakers, or Otyughs

Encounter Hook:
Three nights running, the fishermen of Saltmere have woken screaming — not from nightmares, but from memories that aren't theirs: vast dark water, a hunger older than gods, and a name they cannot pronounce but cannot stop thinking. When the party investigates the harbour at low tide, they find the pilings coated in a pale mucus that glows faintly when touched. Something beneath the docks has been very, very patient.

Details

Supplied at 32mm scale. The model and base are separate pieces — attach with cyanoacrylate glue. The decorative base is recommended, as the tentacle arrangement is designed to interact with it. Supplied unpainted and ready for priming, though it reads well straight from the box for those who want it on the table fast.

Mitz & Simz — the cats maintain concentration on their Nap spell regardless of what is happening around them.

Works beautifully alongside aberration horrors for complete Underdark delves — or explore more from Monster Atlas.
