This sculpt from Novaminis captures exactly that temperament. The dragon is caught in a predatory low crouch — head thrust forward, jaws parted in a snarl, spines fanned aggressively along the crown and neck. Its broad wings are half-spread and braced low, as though it has just landed hard and is already deciding what to destroy first.

The surface detail across the body is exceptional: overlapping scales shift in size from the heavy armoured plates across the back and shoulders to finer, tighter scales along the throat and belly. The wing membranes show the same care — taut and leathery between pronounced finger-bones, each membrane edge lined with hooked spurs. Every talon is fully rendered, digging into the ground with convincing weight. This is a creature that knows it has the advantage.

As the second sculpt in Novaminis' Young Red Dragon series, this variant presents a distinctly more aggressive, ground-level pose compared to its counterpart — worth noting if you're building a multi-encounter arc or want variation across your dragon collection. The multipart construction makes it well-suited to painters who want to tackle wings, body and head separately before assembly.

Whether you're running a volcanic mountain lair encounter, staging a countryside burning, or adding a centrepiece predator to your display shelf, this miniature delivers the threat that a young red dragon deserves on the table.

Suits adventurers who:

Need a fierce, encounter-ready young red dragon with presence and genuine menace

Want a display-quality dragon sculpt to paint to a high standard

Are building out a chromatic dragon collection across age categories

Run volcanic, mountain, or wilderness campaigns with draconic threats

Enjoy multipart miniatures that reward careful assembly and painting

Encounter Hook

The party crests a ridge above a burning shepherd's settlement to find the culprit still there — a young red dragon crouched low over the embers, wings half-spread, head swivelling toward them with unsettling calm.
