Where most of its kin are shambling predators of the deep forest, this creature is something altogether more unsettling — a squat, barrel-chested titan with the bearing of a bird of prey that has never once considered the possibility of failure. Its broad raptor's beak curves with quiet menace, and the dense layered feathers across its body shift from blue-tipped wings down through violet and blush, giving it an almost otherworldly quality that belies just how grounded and physical a threat it truly is.

The sculpt captures the creature mid-glower — hunched forward on its heavy taloned feet, wings slightly raised at its flanks, head low and eyes narrowed with the focused intensity of an apex predator that has spotted something it intends to eat. There is no performance in this pose. It is not roaring or lunging. It is simply deciding. The feather texture is rendered with real sculptural conviction, from the crest atop its broad head to the layered primaries at each side and the bristling plumage of its thick chest and belly.

For Dungeon Masters running wilderness encounters, corrupted beast territories, or a homebrew bestiary that benefits from something genuinely distinctive, the Suneater brings an immediate visual presence to any table. For painters, the smooth plumage planes offer a genuine opportunity — the two-tone blue and violet colouration of the render is a suggestion, not a limitation, and a grimy, naturalistic earth-tone palette would transform this into something altogether more grounded and menacing.

A strong choice for adventurers who:

Run wilderness, mountain, or ancient forest encounters that need an alpha predator with real presence

Want a boss-weight beast that looks distinctive on the table without requiring a towering base

Enjoy painting complex feather textures with layered highlighting and colour blending

Are building a corrupted or magically altered bestiary for their homebrew setting

Collect owlbear variants and want something that stands apart from the classic sculpt archetype

Encounter Hook: The party has been hired to locate a missing ranger whose last known camp sits near the Greywood's edge. When they arrive, the camp is shredded — not burned, not looted, but torn apart with surgical, taloned precision. As they examine the site, a shadow crosses the moon, and something enormous settles onto a boulder twenty feet away, fixing them with a slow, calculating stare. The Suneater has been watching since they entered the trees. It has been deciding since they reached the camp.

Details

Single miniature: Suneater Owlbear

Supplied with a plain base option or no base — choose at checkout

Unpainted — ready for primer and your own paintwork

Sculpted by The Toadstool Weaver

Sculpted by The Toadstool Weaver — visit their collection to explore more of their work.

Pairs well with our beast encounters and wilderness forest campaigns — or explore more from The Toadstool Weaver.

Mitz & Simz — independently run by people who definitely have a favourite monster type.

Ready to add this adventurer to your collection?
