rust-monster-by-mz4250-2
Rust Monster by MZ4250

The clatter of chitin, the acrid scent of oxidised metal, and the sudden horror of watching a perfectly good sword crumble to flakes — the Rust Monster has been the bane of well-equipped adventurers since the earliest days of the dungeon.

✔ 32mm scale resin miniature, printed fresh to order in the UK

✔ Supplied unpainted and ready to prime

✔ Compatible with D&D, Pathfinder, and all tabletop RPGs

✔ Equally at home on the gaming table or the display shelf

This sculpt by MZ4250 captures the Rust Monster mid-stalk — six segmented legs braced low against the ground, its broad beetle-like body armoured with overlapping chitinous plates studded with blunt spines. A pair of wide, feathered antennae sweep back from a compact insectoid head, while the iconic curling tail arcs upward in a dramatic crescent, tipped with the characteristic fan-shaped appendage that delivers its infamous corroding touch. The pose communicates hungry intent: this creature isn't wandering — it's homing in on something metal and delicious.

For a monster that rarely deals a single point of damage, the Rust Monster punches far above its weight at the table. Few creatures cause as much real despair as this humble dungeon scavenger — the moment it lumbers into the torchlight, every fighter and paladin suddenly discovers a passionate interest in retreating. It's an outstanding encounter tool for Dungeon Masters who want to apply pressure without outright killing anyone, and a genuinely characterful addition to any display collection.

DMs who want to introduce resource pressure and make adventurers sweat over their equipment

Players collecting D&D-iconic monsters for a display shelf or painting project

Anyone running classic dungeon-crawl campaigns where the Underdark lurks beneath every stone

Painters who appreciate crisp insectoid detail — segmented plating, textured wings, and a dramatic silhouette

Encounter Hook
The party is three levels into the ruined dwarven hold when the scout's lantern catches a pair of feathered antennae twitching at the edge of the dark. The ranger whispers one word. The fighter looks down at her ancestral plate armour. The wizard quietly steps to the back of the group.
