This sculpt from MZ4250's 2025 Monster Manual series captures it low and menacing, compound eyes locked forward and serrated mandibles spread wide, chitinous wings fanned out behind its armoured thorax like a grotesque threat display. Curved dorsal spines rake upward from its back, and every segmented limb is posed with predatory tension — this creature is not retreating.

The detail work rewards a painter willing to lean into contrast: the plated carapace sections offer natural shadow recesses, the faceted compound eyes will pop with a careful glaze, and those bristling spines are sharp enough to make the model feel genuinely dangerous on the table. Whether you go for a frost-pale arctic scheme or something more bioluminescent and Underdark-adjacent, this sculpt has the surface detail to carry it.

As a tabletop encounter piece, it reads as exactly what it is — a CR 11 threat that your players will immediately respect. As a display piece, it occupies space with the kind of confident physicality that earns a spot front and centre on any shelf.

Dungeon Masters building arctic tundra or frozen wilderness encounters

Players whose Ranger or Druid has survived — or seeks revenge on — a Remorhaz

Painters who want a complex insectoid subject with varied textures and surface depth

Collectors drawn to the 2025 Monster Manual creature roster

Encounter Hook: The hunting party was following a blood trail through the Frozen Reaches when the snow beside the path erupted upward — the trail was bait, and the Remorhaz had been waiting beneath the ice for hours.
