There's a wariness to the pose — this is not a creature that rushes into conflict, but one that has already assessed the situation and made up its mind. The deeply textured bark-like surface of the stalk and the latticed, void-holed cap give it a tactile, organic quality that rewards careful painting — washes and layered purples will draw out every groove and hollow beautifully.

Myconids are among the most fascinating and underused inhabitants of the Underdark. Neither truly hostile nor immediately friendly, they communicate through spore-telepathy and experience the world through a fundamentally alien lens. A sprout like this one could be a skittish scout, a curious emissary from a deeper colony, or a harbinger of something vast and rooted that the party really shouldn't disturb. The folded arms and glowing eyes lend it a personality that sits somewhere between wary child and ancient guardian — a quietly compelling miniature that will provoke questions at your table.

Adventurers running a colony of myconids as an Underdark faction

DMs who want to give their fungal encounters genuine character and personality

Painters drawn to organic, textural sculpts with strong bioluminescent colour potential

Collectors building out a weird and wonderful display of Underdark denizens

Encounter Hook: The party follows a trail of crushed violet spores through the Underdark and finds a single Myconid Sprout standing motionless in their path, arms folded, yellow eyes fixed on them. It does not attack. It does not retreat. Through the spore-meld it projects a single repeating image: a deeper passage, a sealed door, and something behind it that the colony will not name.

Details

32mm scale

Single miniature, one sculpt

Supplied unpainted, with or without a plain base depending on your chosen option

Sculpted by The Toadstool Weaver

Sculpted by The Toadstool Weaver — visit their page to explore more of their work.

Pairs well with plant creatures and Underdark delves — or explore more from The Toadstool Weaver.

Mitz & Simz — because someone has to bring these sculpts to life, and the cats volunteered us.

Ready to add this adventurer to your collection?
